Reisterstown, MD Success Story

Historic Neighborhood Tree Assessment and Selective Pruning

Service: Tree Safety Inspections / Trimming and Pruning Services

Project Snapshot
A Reisterstown homeowner in an older established neighborhood contacted AmeriTree Experts about several large trees that had been on the property since the home was built in the 1950s. The homeowner wanted a professional opinion on which trees were healthy long-term assets and which might be approaching end of life.

Challenges
Trees of this age often have internal decay that doesn’t present visibly until it’s advanced. Several had been improperly pruned in the past — flush cuts and heading cuts that created decay pathways. One large tulip poplar had a cavity at the trunk base that the homeowner had been monitoring for years and wanted formally assessed.

Solution
AmeriTree Experts conducted a full inspection with written documentation. The tulip poplar’s basal cavity was assessed and found to be within manageable bounds — not an immediate removal candidate but requiring annual monitoring. Two other trees with advanced internal decay from past improper pruning were recommended for removal. Selective crown work was done on the healthy trees to improve their structural form.

Results
The homeowner had documented findings for every significant tree on the property for the first time. Two trees came out before they became emergency situations. The healthy trees received proper corrective pruning to extend their useful life.

“Those trees have been on this property longer than I have and I wanted to take care of them properly. The inspection gave me real answers instead of guesses. Two needed to come out and the rest are being managed right going forward.”
